All website owners and webmasters want a high pagerank (PR) for their site. A higher PR means a higher rank in the search engines and higher traffic volume. That's a no-brainer. The problem is that some things you do to try to increase your PR can get you into trouble. Some can end up only lowering your PR and some can actually get you banned from Google entirely.

You need backlinks from other sites to yours, but getting that link from a huge site may not benefit you very much.
You could benefit more by getting a lot of links from lower pagerank sites, which are easier to get. This could help your PR more than that one monster site. The general consensus on the internet is that the best way to boost your pagerank is to forget about it and concentrate on the quality and content of your site. Make a high quality site that offers value to your customers and other people will naturally want to link to it.
